Essential Information For People Considering Liposuction

One of the most popular types of cosmetic surgery, liposuction trims and enhances the figure where diet and exercise just aren't enough. Although it can be done on people who are overweight for the purposes of fat loss, this is not a safe or generally accepted practice. Instead, most procedures are performed on people of normal weight who feel that they have stubborn fat pockets remaining that they would like to get rid of.

Unlike when a person has breast implants places, liposuction (also known by the shorter term 'lipo') takes something away. The surgeon works through small incisions in the body to free and suck out excess fat in the area. One of the reasons that many surgeons do not recommend lipo for overweight individuals is that the larger the amount of fat removed, the more likely the results will not be favourable. Pits and bumpiness are the most common issues.

The tool that the surgeon uses is called a cannula. This is a hollow tube that is moved rapidly under the skin in order to free fatty tissue. The cannula is attached to an aspirator, a suction machine that removes the tissue once it is loose. Fluid is usually introduced into the area in order to maintain proper fluid balance in the body during the process.

Three areas of lipo (that is, treatment on three parts of the body) can be obtained for about the same price as the typical breast enlargement cost. It is not considered safe to have a tummy tuck at the same time as lipo on that area, although the process can be safely combined with many other types of plastic surgery, such as a Rhinoplasty (nose job).

If you are considering lipo, talk to an experienced plastic surgeon who regularly performs the procedure. Ask about risks and benefits, and to see previous examples of his or her work. Any good surgeon will be happy to show you these.
